Incremental Model Building Homotopy Approach for Solving Exact AC-Constrained Optimal Power Flow

Alternating-Current Optimal Power Flow (AC-OPF) is framed as a NP-hard non-convex optimization problem that solves for the most economical dispatch of grid generation given AC-network and device constraints. Although there are no standard methodologies obtaining global optimum problem, considerable interest from planning operational engineers in finding local optimum. Nonetheless, solving optima large AC-OPF challenging time-intensive, none leading non-linear toolboxes can provide any timely guarantees convergence. To robust convergence complex systems, we introduce homotopy-based approach sequence primal-dual interior point problems. We utilize physics to develop proposed homotopy method demonstrate efficacy this on U.S. Eastern Interconnection sized test networks.
